Doing anything freelance is daunting because there are no guarantees in freelance anything. This means trusting in your gut and just doing what needs to be done. However, your freelance career needs to be jump started and the only way to do this is through these useful skills. You may or may not have them, you might have to develop them, you might have to grow them, you might have to acquire them; whatever you have to do – just do it!

Make sure that you’re ready to grow these skills, because come 2019, you’re going to need them to hang onto. You’re going to want to wish you built them up before the big boom comes. While this sounds scary, it’s really not. I am just being theatrical and trying to get my point across.

Moving onto the skills needed, here are the four biggest and best skills to have that can actually help you grow your freelance career.

1. Have a Diverse Portfolio

While one particular area might suit you best, which it does for many, there are many benefits to having a large, all-inclusive portfolio that lists many of your strong suits. You might be great at writing landing pages or sales emails, but you’re also good at putting together decent websites – show these skills off! There is no right or wrong way to showcase yourself, even if you do more than one thing!

2. Have a Personal Website for Your Freelance Career

Having a personal website means you mean business. However, you have to keep it up-to-date. If you have old news on there, no one is going to look at it. If it looks like it was made 20 years ago, again, no one will be impressed. Change with the times, just like they are going to want to change with the times. Impress!

3. Always Deliver More Than Whats Expected

Delivering more than what is expected to the client is always going to go over well. If you impress them, they’re going to send more people your way. Not only that, but they’re going to want to keep using you for all of the work that they have. You will become a regular and have a strong working relationship. Hey, you might even get a bit of a raise out of it! Do well, do more, and impress!

4. Maintain and Use Social Media

Having social media means a lot for those that have internet-related jobs. If this is your profession, then you need social media. This allows you to network, get your name out there, get seen, get known and then get hired! Without the World Wide Web behind you, you might find that reaching those goals of actually making a living is harder than you originally thought.

It is important to do what is best for your freelance career. If you’re able to do this, you won’t have to worry about what comes next. You will make a name for yourself and allow yourself to have a comfortable profession doing something that is rewarding and enriching. The best part is that as a freelancer, you choose who to work for!

Organizing for the future is what I always say! I feel that my life is more put together and I can easily manage my time more effortlessly if I am better organized. This means being able to get all of my ducks (or website content in this case) in a row and then go down and cross them off.

If you’re looking to get your ducks in a row, then now is your time to do so. Here are some of the best pointers that I have used to organize my web content and get it ready to go for the weeks, or even months if you’re feeling ambitious, ahead.

Make a Plan

It all goes smoothly when you have a plan, doesn’t it? In my case, that is how I feel. I have to-do lists, plans, and papers full of hopes and dreams everywhere. When you can cross them off as you go down the list, you will not only feel more organized, but more accomplished.

Think Your Website Content Through

Before you go posting everywhere, think your web content through. You should know what you’re going to post on, where, when and how. These are all great starting points when it comes to both blogs and pages that need to be made for the website. Planning ahead, knowing what to expect and thinking it through makes a difference.

Set it Up

Set up the pages, words, pictures and anything else that you need to have set up. From there, you can be sure that you have time to look it over and then look it over again. You can change and move anything that you want. It is your website, but you also want to make sure that it is set up for usability and not just because you think it looks pretty.

Don’t Publish Just Yet

You don’t want to publish the website just yet once you have everything planned out, written down and ready to go. Give the backlink to someone that you trust. Let them take a look at it to see where you are. This not only gives you a pair of fresh eyes on the website but it also gives you some additional insight on what needs to be done.

Being able to have a game plan at the beginning of a website is a good thing. All too often you might find yourself running around trying to gather the website content, throw it all together and try to come up with something unique. This is not going to work.

Put your voice into it. Work hard at it and stick with it. You want something that is going to be worth looking at, so you have to make sure you organized it right, while also ensuring that you don’t feel overwhelmed.

You own a small business that is picking up at an amazing rate. You need to quickly hire help that is perfect for the job. This person needs to be fit for your growing business. A smart, responsible and dependable person who can start right away and catch up to what you need by tomorrow. A great employee is what you’re looking for.

When we think about what the perfect employee we have to put ourselves in the store owner’s shoes. What makes a perfect employee is simply understood by putting yourself in the power seat. Pretend if you will, what type of person would you want? Key qualities that are needed, not just wanted. There are several key points we need to look at that can explain the basic needs that every employer is looking for.

Dependability in a Great Employee

By far this a key that ALL employers are looking for. No employer cares if you are a rocket scientist if they can’t depend on you to at least do the job they are asking. If you want to make a good impression explain how dependable you are and the responsibilities you have taken on in previous jobs. Show them you are a person who can get things done without having them worry about having to keep a close eye on you.

Show up

Attendance is something employers want to know. How often they have to worry about you calling in because you have the sniffles can cause some scheduling problems for them. In some job cases, the employer will explain to you if you even feel a slight cold stay home so you don’t spread it but these type of jobs are few and far between. An employer wants to think that if your car doesn’t start you are going to jog to work. It may be a bit far-fetched to think but they want to know that you are going to do all you can to show up to the job.

Hard Worker

Similar to dependability, employers realize not every job that you will be given will be luxurious and enjoyable. Some work is just downright monotonous and boring. Your employer understands this but this is your job that they are paying you to do. They want to know that if it is fixing a car or scrubbing a toilet that you are giving it your all and to the best of your ability.

Honesty

We all want people to be honest with us, more so our employers expect the same, if not more. The easiest way to ruin a job or career is by lying to your employer. Along with this, if you fail to be honest with your employer it can follow you to the next job that you will soon be looking for if you fail to be honest with your current one.

Success

Your employer wants to have a successful person. This is very important in sales positions. They want you to have all these types of characteristics but most importantly they want you to be successful for them. Employers have a bit of understanding but all employers demand you to catch on and be successful for their business otherwise they need to find someone else who is.

Would you say you’re a great employee? Do you have what it takes?
